The best foods for lean fitness are those that will give you energy, stamina, and stop you from crashing.

If you’ve got a big day ahead and you have to be ON, then it’s very important to be cognizant of what you eat and drink during that day (as well as the day and night before.) Some foods will give you energy, stamina, and focus while others will deprive you of all of that. So here are some foods that you should start the day off with if you want to make sure to be productive:

Ginger. Ginger is known to improve brain function (among its countless other benefits) and is easy to incorporate into your day. You can drink it as a tea first thing in the morning (or anytime really) or add it to your smoothie for breakfast for an extra, delicious little kick. Because you can drink it “on the go,” you can multi task and be super productive by working and “eating” at the same time.

Oatmeal. Oatmeal provides you with long lasting energy to power your brain and body for the rest of the day. It will keep you focused and energized for hours without getting hungry. Plus, you can add dried fruit and nuts to your oatmeal bowl for extra flavor and energy. The mixture of carbs and all natural fruit sugars (plus the healthy fat from nuts) gives your brain the perfect boost if you really need to focus — like if you have an important meeting or are taking a test.

What is a Great Food Swap for Lean Fitness?

A great food swap for lean fitness is avocado swapped in for dressing, mayo and butter.

Avocados have healthy fats that are good for your brain (if you need to solve analytical problems) and will keep you full for hours. Swap in avocado instead of dressing, butter, and mayo.

You know I eat them for every meal of the day so of course they had to be included on this list. The best thing is that you can add avocado to virtually anything you may be consuming — sandwiches, salads, soups, entrees, and smoothies. There is even avocado ice cream. And I recently heard about an avocado margarita. So if you want to stay focused on your lean fitness goals, start eating avocado.
